The last panel discussion of the 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum was devoted to the topic "Climate action and media".
With the moderation of Ansis Bogustovs, the presenter and producer of Riga TV24 and Radio Latvia a group of reknown panelists such as Francis Martin Kane, Editor at Large of "Arabian Gulf Business Insight" news portal, Holger Friedrich, Executive Director of Berliner Zeitung, Nigar Arpadarai, UN High-Level Champion for Climate Change at COP29, and John Roberts, Energy Security Specialist at Methinks, UK (Scotland) discussed the role of the media in the climate action, which is considered one of the key global challenges, the importance of the media in creating a public agenda for developing effective information mechanisms for the sake of a green world, as well as preventing climate change and eliminating its consequences.
During the panel session, it was emphasized that the media plays a major role in preventing climate changes, creating environmental stability and balance, protecting the environment, promoting sustainable development and achieving significant results in this direction. For this reason, it is critical to use media and communication tools correctly in existing processes, to transmit effective messages calculated to the target audience, to form mass awareness and feelings of responsibility, and to take collective preventive measures against climate change.
Within the framework of the 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chief Executive Officer of COP29 Mr. Elnur Soltanov talked of the measures and preparatory work under 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be hosted by Azerbaijan, Mr. Soltanov shared detailed information to the participants and answered their questions, providing insights on the sustainable approach in the struggle with the effects of the change, restoration and reconstruction in the liberated areas.
